Two weeks ago, I quit my second job. The blue-collar one. I toughed it out for 8 months, which is all it took to destroy my old bod and sleeping patterns. I will chronicle (in condensed form, of course) my gas station experience, but first things first.
I must focus on finding a new second job or giglet to replace the one I left at Roadway (not its actual name), and new second job must provide as regular an income as possible.
Editorial work from publishers is not enough to go around anymore; too many freelancers, too few titles in these Hunger Games times. And publishers, naturally, feed their most recent former in-house peeps first.
I get it.
I do, however, love working with independent authors, and more of them seeking me out on a referral would help with regard to volume, but indie gigs are rare. I never solicit them. Industry colleagues point the writers in my direction. The recommendation works both ways: It speaks to the literateness of the authors’ work. And every client has been interesting, appreciative, smart, and considerate.
As I was saying before I interrupted myself, I need a second form of income. So in deference to the current condition of my meat suit, I’m testing the more sedentary possibilities first.
I’ve just opened an Etsy store. I’m selling high-quality digital-print posters of original artwork designed by me. It might be more accurate to say “art directed by me . . .” I do hold the copyright on the pictures I produce.
I’m starting with one standard-poster size—18” x 24”—printed on either museum-quality paper or less expensive premium-quality paper. I think people worldwide will be able to get a better deal on frames locally, so I’m offering just the unframed posters. Maybe I’ll print on tote bags and other ephemera later.
I’m a little nervous because, you know, I’m old ‘n’ shit, and I’m never sure till after the fact whether I’m doing online creative digital projects correctly. Mathematical calculations and me? NOT perfect together. But I did enhance my files to the highest possible resolutions. (Offering prayers to the guardian angel of online artistry.)
If you know anyone looking for graduation gifts, maybe a poster will do. If anything, really, I’d be grateful if anyone has the time and inclination just to browse. Visitors to the page might kickstart visibility. 🤞🏼
Here’s the linky-dink, and I’ll follow that with a few more pix from the site:

I haven’t even begun to load my portfolio on Etsy yet. Just 10 so far. I hope I’m not the only person who’s amused by my creations.
That’s been known to happen.
Thank you for stopping by, and I hope all is well with everyone!

L💖VE what I see here on this stack post. Going to check out the Etsy page now! I really dig this style. Crystal Mountain is gorgeous!!
Major apologies for taking so long to respond to your wonderful post. I LOVE what I'm seeing! I will not be signing on to Etsy unfortunately. I can't remember why but I've been kicked off so many sites - maybe they decided to get on the bandwagon too! LOL. It would be great to be able to see your work in another format and if you would set up an e-transfer link. That would be more to MY liking - but not worth the effort probably because I no longer have any way to share with others online except in comments sections of Substack! LOL. Kicked off fb multiple times, off twat-ter a LONG time ago, gave up on linked in etc., etc. So now I'm just a YouTube watcher and Rumble and Substack reader. Good for you for letting go the retail gig. I hope you have some time to relax and be yourself. Being 67 and having my place jam packed with art, I don't really have a need for anything but I might consider getting something for a gift - though, again, at my age, anyone I would gift with a pic probably doesn't want/need one. If I think of any way to pass on your info I will gladly do so. You're fantastically talented. xo ❤️. Oh, just thought of something - I'm always up for a cotton t-shirt in case you branch out into tees!
